Breathtaking Sunset, West End, Tortola British Virgin Islands!!

Look at what my eyes saw yesterday!  This pictures does not give justice to what I actually saw.  It's a pity we can't take pictures with our eyes!  LOL!!!  Location:  West End, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

It was the most beautiful sight.

Invitation to submit your beach pictures

The company that hosts my recipe website recently introducted a new feature which enables me to invite my visitors to make contributions.  The contributions will then be edited and published by me.  It is an awesome feature.

I will like now to invite you  contribute your favorite beach pictures and any stories that you may have about the topic.  Looking forward to receiving your input.

Please Back Up

I should know better.  Many years ago when I was new in computer field, my job entailed editing the company's financial documents using a software called PageMaker.  One day, after spending hours on a file, I lost it!!!  I was so upset,  and disappointed with myself that I was not saving AND backing up my file periodically.

You would have thought that I learned my lesson.  About a month ago my compuer crashed and eventhough I was backing up my files, apparently I was not backing up often enough.  I had to change my hard drive and am now realizing that I did not retrieve alot of my pictures.

So folks, being in the photography field, it is important to back up your files maybe once a week.  Remember moments lost cannot be regained.

I have two Jump Drives, the red one has a capacity of 1GB and the other one, 8GB.

My son recently bought this external hard drive and it has a capacity of 250GB!!!  It looks like a note book!

DJ

Digicel (a cell phone company) had a promotion yesterday and a local radio station (ZROD FM) was broadcasting the event.  My daughter worked at the radio staiton for some time and I knew some of the workers, so I decided to approach one of them and take some pictures.  I don't know this guy but he was the DJ (disk jockey) and posed for me.

Technology has really come a long way, I remember in the days when my husband did DJing as a hobby, he had to walk with a set of records and cassettes.  Now all you have to do is walk with your laptop with your music saved on it!

Starfish

I took this picture about four years ago as I was strolling on the beach on Beef Island, British Virgin Islands.  This is the first time I have seen a starfish.

Accident

One morning as I was going into town, I saw this vehicle at the side of the road.  My estimation was that the accident occured the night before.  I am not too sure if there were any fatal injuries.
My husband that it was silly of me take this picture.  I had it in my stock for a while and now decided to use it.  I realize that when I am out taking pictures, I take whatever attracts my 'eye'.  I may not use many of pictures the same day but I find that they come in handy some time in the new future.  This picture is a good example.

I did not have any thing scheduled to post today so I went through my stock photos and found this one.

Flash Flood

For the past few days we have been having some heavy rains.  On Monday we had a undetected flash storm and alot of areas were flooded.  I was not able to get better pictures of the flodded areas because we were cautioned to stay off the road.  I was able to get just these few but they don't really show how bad the floods were that day.

The Vauxhall Bug

This is the latest model of the Vauxhall's bug.  This yellow one belongs to my husband's mechanic.  When ever he comes to our home, I would tell my husband that the 'bug' is here.  The vehicle has a very distinct noise so I know when it has arrived in my yard.

Figurine

This is a figurine that I bought when my husband and I were purchasing our wedding rings in December 2008.  I just love this figurine.  I purchased it in St. Thomas USVI and am always promising myself that I would return to St, Thomas and purchase a few more but I have not gotten around to it as yet.

I have even made this picture the background on my computer and it looks great!

Lower Estate Sugar Works, Tortola British Virgin Islands

This is one of the BVI Tourist attractions - Lower Estate Sugar Works.  This building was constructed in 1780, I guess this is where the sugar cane was processed in the slavery days.

Jamdown

My model today is a friend of mine and she is so lovely.  I have not seen her for a while and I saw her last Saturday at the BVI Trade Show.  I thought her beauty would shine if I changed this photo to black and white.

She is from Jamaica and here in the Caribbean we call Jamaicans 'Jamdown'

New vehicles

My husband had some car problems yesterday, the vehicle would not start.  We eventually had to go the automobile store to purchase a new battery. While he was in store I saw these new vehicles for sale and I thought that it would be a good shot to get them from this angle.

spooked chickens

I did this video to capture the sounds of the chickens crowing.  There are about nine wild chickens living around my home and they sleep in a tree behind my house.  Normally the roosters would crow about 4:00 am each morning but this particular morning, they were all still in the tree and ALL the chickens were crowing as if something had spooked them.  But thinking about if something did spook them, they would have flown out of the tree!

I remember when my kids first came to live me in the BVI, my son was speaking to his father who lives in the USA and as they were conversing, his father commented that he was so surprised to hear the rooster crow because it has been years since he had heard the sound.  It was like music to his hears.

The things we take for granted!

You learn everyday

My husband and I had lunch out doors yesterday, at Trellis Bay, Beef Island, BVI.  I notice that this boat was taking in water, then my husband explained that the motor was proberably was not working.  I was a bit confused and he had to explain further that all boats are suppose to have a motor which will pump out the water when rain falls.  I learned something interesting yesterday.

Spike

Hi everybody, I will like you to meet Spike!!!  He is my neighbor's present dog and I have a story to tell you about him.

My relationship with Spike first began with his mother whose name was Lucy.  Lucy was also my neighbor's dog.  I don't know if she died or if they lost her somewhere.

They first got her with another dog that they called Snow (he was a male dog).  Snow was always friendly with me.  Everyday he would come and look for me and allow me to play with him.  Snow and Lucy were a real couple.  Every where Snow went, Lucy was there.  But when Snow decided to take a stroll on the streets, Lucy would not leave her home, I admired that about her.

At first she was not friendly to me at all until she realized how I dealt with Snow.  I noticed her attitude towards me changed after she had pups.  We became good friends.  One of her pups was Spike and he developed the habit of coming to look  for me also.

Snow died (I was so sad when I heard the news) and eventually Lucy was no longer around and Spike still looks for me whenever his master lets him loose.

Miss British Virgin Islands 2009

These pictures are of a young lady that I have seen on numerous occasions at my hairdresser salon.  She is the owner's  daughter.  I have seen her as she grew through primary school, high school now she is working in the company's business.

Recently she was a contestant in the Miss British Virgin Islands pageant and she won!!!  I saw one of her performances and she was brilliant.  I am so proud of her.  Last week when I went to have my hair touch up, I took her picture with my cell phone.  I congratulated her and we chat for a while.  She promised that she will drop off one of her pictures for me and she kept her promise.

View from Great Thatch

This is one of my son's ex co-workers.  She worked on one of the private yachts in Tortola BVI for a few months. This picture was taken on top of Great Thatch Island, and in the background you can see Soper's Hole the most westernly point of Tortola.

Poor Service, Marina Cay, British Virgin Islands

Last Saturday my husband and I went to Pussers, Marina Cay, British Virgin Islands to 'hang out' so we went to the bar to have a few drinks.  A few minutes later a group of about 9 people walked into the restaurant and were seated.  The bartender was mixing a drink so we waited to be served.

About ten minutes passed and we realized that we were not being attended to plus the lady did not even acknowledge our presence.  Well my husband and I coolly walked out the bar and headed for the next ferry out of there!!!!

The Manager attempted to get us to return to the restaurant and have a meal on the house but we were adamant that we were not returning.  But we did not allow the situation to spoil our day!

Not William The Donkey

I took this picture when I was preparing for an article on coconuts.  Please note that my friend here is not related to William at 40!  LOL!!!

When I am taking pictures for a particular project, I also take pictures of unrelated subjects that interest me.  I realize that they are useful when I don't really have anything to post about for the day.

Mummy Flowers

These are some pictures of my mother's flowers, that my daughter sent me this morning.  I can't seem to find the words to express how I feel this morning.  My heart feels so happy, my pores rose when I opened the email with these pictures.  I am so moved to see that my mother and daughter showed interest to send me these pictures.  I love you guys, thanks!

My mother loves plants, she has the greenest plants inside her house.  On many occasions I attempted to keep a few plants in my house but they never looked as green as my mother's.  Quite depressing!
