Fancy Faucet

My daughter and I went to the new cinema in town and this is the faucet in the ladies room.  There are some really fancy faucets.  I think this picture of my daughter washing her hands gives the picture a diferent dimension.

Queen Mary II

This cruise ship is called Queen Mary II.  It is a very large ship, though it may look smaller than others I have seen, I was told that the part of the ship that is under the sea is very large.  It is unable to dock in our harbour so is has to anchor on the outskirts.

My Christmas Gift 2009

I just wanted to show off what I got myself for Christmas this year – a used 2003 Kia Sorento (silver grey), automatic transmission. I imported it from the United States. I had to do a paint job on it and now it is looking pretty good.
In the photo below, this is the vehicle that I had before I got the one above. It was a Mitsubishi Montero (navy blue and silver) 2 door with manual transmission.
Oh yes, I can drive a vehicle with both manual and automatic transmission.  Left hand and right hand drive vehicles.  I am from Trinidad and Tobago and we drive right hand vehicles there.  In the British Virgin Islands, we drive mainly left hand vehicles
This is the dashboard of the Kia Sorento, a feature that help me decided to choose this vehicle.  I always wanted a vehicle with a dashboard like this.

Four Attempts

I really enjoy touching up my photos.  This one in particular took me four attempts to get it right.  This is the first picture that I took so long to complete.  The others were a snap!

Intense Eyes

I went to a baby shower, for a co workers of mine, a few weeks ago and I met this little girl.  She captivated me with the intensity of her eyes.

Pussers

This is Pussers sign from behind (from the street).  The sign is facing the sea so yachters can identify the location of the pub.

Grass Hopper

My visitor this morning was a grasshopper.  It was resting on a bucket in my patio.  He was on the side of the bucket and I rotated the picture to make it look as if he was resting horizontally on the bucket.  Its a pity that I was not able to get more details of this insect.

BBQ

On Friday nights I like to go to this food van and get some BBQ ribs and potato salad.  I like that 'ball' of light on the left.  That is an area where there is a night light and people can sit and relax while this meal is being prepared.  Also the smoke from the BBQ pit blows in that direction makng the area look muskie.

Poinsetta

Poinsetta is another plant that blossoms during the Christmas season - its leaves turn red!  During the year, I have seen them white or green.  This plant reminds me of the sorrel plant that only bears fruit during the Christmas season.

Christmas on Main Street, Road Town, Tortola British Virgin Islands

Christmas on Main Street is an event that we have every year on Road Town, Tortola British Virgin Islands.  The street (Main Street) is blocked off and different people display their craft for sale.  There was lots of food and entertainment.  The event last for the 1 weekend in December.

Update:  This annual event is now held on De Castro Street, Road Town, Tortola and honestly eventhough there is more space for the vendors as well for the shoppers, the atmosphere of the event is not as it use to be as when it was held on Main Street.

Ghost?

I just took this picture a few minutes ago with my son's camera.  It was Christmas on Main Street.  Do you see the guy on the extreme left??  Looks a ghost!  He was passing in from of me as I was taking this picture.

My main focus of this picture was the guy (a native of Trinidad and Tobago) playing the instrument called a steelpan.  This instrument is made from oil drums.

Some camera parts

This is another great video that I found, I like how the guy opened the camera and the talked about functions of some of the parts.  I am a very visual person so this was very effective for me.

I think I will tell Santa Claus that I need a tripod!!!

Night Photography

I was doing some reasearch on night photograhy and I found this video.  The instructions are basic, simple and easy to follow.  I used the instructions to take these pictures.

I took off all the lights in my living room and and focused on capturing the light from my laptop.  I set my camera to manual, then adjusted the aperture to its lowest and played around with shutter speed.

Just before I was able to capture the picture above, I got it.  I like the blur effect of the light.

My First Photography Customer

This gentleman is one of my co-workers and last Saturday, we attended a baby shower of another co-worker.  As you can see he was smartly dressed.  I took my camera with me and he asked me to take some pictures of him.  In this shot, I instructed him how to pose.

So he asked me to have the pictures printed out for him, so I did that yesterday.  I took my memory chip to my photo store and had them print three pictures for me.  The cost was $1.80.  They look great!!!

So when I delivered the pictures to the guy, he asked me how much I had for  him and I told him that he did not owe me anything.  I really did it as a favor to him.  Then he said that he will need copies, so of course I will have to charge for that!!!

Photo taken with my Nikon D60 DSLR camera.

Sorrel The Fruit

I took this picture of my neighbour's plant, called Sorrel, over the weekend. It flowers and bear fruit only once a year - Christmas time.  My mother makes a beverage with the fruit and we serve it to our guest when they visit for the holidays.

It only occurred to me yesterday that I could create a web page for my site about this fruit.

Early Morning Race, Road Town, Tortola British Virgin Islands

These are my first set of sport pictures since I purchased my Nikon D60 camera.  Next time I have to get closer.  It is my intention to be up to date with all the activities taking place on the island so I can be present to take pictures.

This last runner is a resident of the BVI and she is a great athletic.  We saw her walking during her event and we knew something was wrong, we had to ask her what was up and she responded by saying that she had pulled a muscle.  Eventhough she had an injury, she was walking very brisk.

Most of these races occur early in the morning, this is to avoid the runners having to run in the hot sun.  A friend of mine husband ran in one of these races and collapsed during the event.  Apparently he was dehydrated and the sun was extremely hot.  We were all very concerned for his health and I am happy to report that he is doing very well!
