Long Bay Beach Beef Island British Virgin Islands

Since after hurricane Irma in 2017 passengers from cruise ships are now taken to Long Bay Beach Beef Island to enjoy the sun and the lovely beach.  Amenities such as toilet and shower facilities are now available.  Vendors are only operating when the cruise ships are in town.

Trellis Bay BVI After Hurricane Irma

I took this photo early in 2018 when I returned to the BVI.  Location:  Trellis Bay, Beef Island, British Virgin Islands.  To the right you can see a damaged dock where the North Sound Express ferry use to anchor their boat and pick up passengers.

In the middle of the photo on the left,  you will see another dock what was recently  installed.  It a floating dock.

The coconut tree is now beginning to grown back some new branches.

Trip To Mayaro, Trinidad And Tobago

Oh yes, another road trip to Mayaro, Trinidad! This time it was my daughter, her boyfriend and myself.  My husband had to return to Tortola British Virgin Islands - back to work.

It was a beautiful day and I have not been to Mayaro in years!!!  Nothing has changed though and I had no problems finding my way to our destination.

This is my daughter behind the boats at the village in Mayaro.  I really like this photo, quite unique in my opinion.  It was in this area that we stopped for a while and had some lunch.
This is a river that flows into the Manzanilla Beach.  You have to pass Manzanilla Beach before you get to Mayaro.

This is BBQ pigtails, we stopped and got some on our way home after leaving Mayaro.  They were really good.  The sweetness of the BBQ sauce and the saltiness of the pigtails really went down well!

La Brea Pitch Lake, Trinidad And Tobago

In June of this year, my husband, daughter, her boyfriend and I drove down to the pitch lake in La Brea, Trinidad.   La Brea is situated in the southern part of the island - past San Fernando.

The roads in La Brea as basically impossible to repair. As the pitch continues to grow, it unlevels the roads in the area. Whenever I travel to La Brea, I always know when I have arrived in the area. The roads are like a roller coaster. There is one house that is basically destroyed by the ever growing pitch in the owners yard and would you believe, the owner still lives in the house!

I noticed this beautiful patch of lilies as we approached the heart of the pitch lake.

We were guided into the pitch lake by our tour guide. He told us about the history the lake etc, he was very thorough, informative and answered all our questions.

The tour took about 30 - 45 minutes to go around the lake. As we were standing in the center of the Pitch Lake, our guide stuck a piece of stick into the ground and then pulled it out. A black liquid, sticky thing was on the stick - pitch in its liquid form.

Eventhough we walked on the Pitch Lake it was a little soft. Some spots were in its liquid form. We were unable to walk without our shoes as the lake was a bit to hot to bear without foot wear.

A wide view of the pitch lake (this is just part of it).  It was a beautiful day!  You can see the processing plant in the horizon.

This is my husband holding a piece of raw pitch.

What Is This? Sargassum Seaweed

What is this brown stuff in the water?  A few days as I was returning to Tortola, we had to make a short stop in St. Lucia and as we were approaching the island I saw this stuff in the water.  I was concerned that it may have been some sort of pollution.  Now today as I was going into town I saw this same stuff in the water at Kingstown, and Baughers Bay.

I had to make a stop at Prospect Reef and the stuff was there too.  Of course I had to take pictures and approached the area only to realize that it is just sea weed!  The stuff is even on Long Bay Beach, Beef Island washed up on the shores.

In my opinion, it seems like the ocean is purging itself.  What do you think?

Black Sand, St. Vincent

On my recent trip to St. Vincent (August 2010), we drove to the Leeward side of the island and I took this picture focusing on the black sand.  My husband informed me that because of the volcano, most of the beaches on the island has black sand like this.

Breathtaking Sunset, West End, Tortola British Virgin Islands!!

Look at what my eyes saw yesterday!  This pictures does not give justice to what I actually saw.  It's a pity we can't take pictures with our eyes!  LOL!!!  Location:  West End, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

It was the most beautiful sight.

Salt Island British Virgin Islands Part 1

My son borrowed his friend's boat and we took a trip to Salt Island, British Virgin Islands on Sunday 11th October 2009. I took an abundance of pictures and will be posting them in parts. Salt Island is where we have a natural resource of PURE salt.

In this picture, my son's girlfriend is having a taste of the pure salt. It tasted quite good actually. Its really amazing!

I took this picture myself but did not zoom in enough, this is a little stone with some pure salt on top of it. I will post other pictures later on where you can see the actual salt crystals.

The white 'ring' around the black stone is pure salt.
