Iguana Sunbathing - Tortola British Virgin Islands

Yesterday I went to hand out my laundry and I passed my buddy without seeing him (I don't know how to identify the males from the female as yet).  It was only when I was on my way back into the the house I saw same familiar colours in the corner of my eye and I was looking in the usual spot when I see these iguanas.  When I eventually refocused my eyes, the iguana was right in front of me out of his usual spot!!

This photo was taken before the one above.  I did not want to add it to my gallery because of the ugly mop but its a great photo.  You can see the length of the iguana and him leaving his 'home'.

He likes to leave the confines of his 'home', walk through the porch and go over to the piece of land on the other side of the house.  Maybe he went looking for food or check out his other friends!

Daily Photo Of Green Invasive Iguana Challenge

Wow I am impressed with the results of this photo.  The original photo was not this close.  I had to crop them and these are the end results.  Again I used the basic editing software that came with my laptop to do the cropping process.  I am challenging myself to try and take a photo every of these interesting animals.  In the Caribbean they are eaten but I don't eat then.  They are vegetarians.  I look forward to seeing them on my tree each day, I speak to them and take awesome photos of them. This guy enjoys hanging out in my banana trees.

Injured Invasive Green Iguana, Tortola British Virgin Islands

Another photo of my little buddy.  But today I am sharing this photo on a sad note.  On Tuesday August 27, I found out that he is injured.  His tail was chopped ...  not completely so he is walking around with piece of his tail just hanging on to his body. If you look closely at the photo you will see that his tail looks funny.

He looks at me as if he is asking for help.😔😔😔  Yesterday, August 28, tropical storm Dorian, which developed into a hurricane, passed through the territory and my dear friend held on to the banana tree leaf for dear life!!!!

I am wondering if iguanas are an endangered species in the BVI and if there is someone who can help me help my little buddy 😔😔

I have subsequently learnt is that it is perfectly natural for Green Iguanas like him to lose part of their tail to help them escape a predator/threat, so his tail will actually regrow over time and he won’t be in any pain from his injury! the bad news, is that Green iguanas are actually an invasive species here in the bvi so they have no protection legally.

The Anegada rock iguana (which are an endangered species in the BVI) are not that shade of green and I believe does not have those spikes either.   These iguanas are native to the bvi.

Invasive Green Iguana In My Backyard - Tortola British Virgin Islands

Iguana in my backyard.  I see them quite frequently.  They love hiding out and hanging out on the banana trees. In the United States Virgin Islands, they are endangered species so  you will see the very old iguanas just chilling on trees and if you are lucky you just might see one at the mall!  Honestly a few years ago, we saw one outside the mall in St. Thomas.

Photo was taken with my Canon EOS M100 camera with the 15-45mm lens attached.  I cropped the photo with paint.net and the resolutions still looks amazing!!!

R.I.P Ms Buddha The Cat

Just sharing some old photos I took of my friend Buddha.  I called her Ms. Buddha, she was my friend's cat! I just found out that she transitioned.  I feel so honored that she allowed me to take these awesome close up photos of her.  When I first met her she used to run away from me then gradually I think she got accustomed to me.

She died on December 11, 2018.
Rest in peace my friend!!

Ducks At Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands

I took a trip from Tortola British Virgin Islands (where I live) to Jost Van Dyke (another island of the British Virgin Islands) on Monday February 25, 2013 for my birthday.  It was a great day.  It was my initial intention to go solo but early in the morning I received a telephone call from my daughter-in-law's mother and she asked to join me on my trip.  We did an ATV tour and at the end of the day we just sat and relaxed at the beach while waiting for the boat to return to take us back to Tortola.

While waiting for the boat captain to arrive, I noticed these ducks that usually hang out at the pond, come out of their safety zone and walk to the beach into the water!  Some drank some water and took a dip.  Others just walked around the area.  I guess if there were not alot of people in the area they would have gone into the water but as my friend and I were there, they just waddle back to their home. I was totally fascinated with them and as you can see I got some really great photos!

Fluffy, The Dog, My New Friend

This is Fluffy my new friend.  He belongs to my neighbor and most times when he hears activities upstairs (his home is in the downstairs apartment), he will come upstairs and look for me.  Initially, he stayed away from me until I made friends with him.  I allowed him to come close to me and get my scent.  I was then able to pat his head and massage him a bit under his neck.  He likes that!  Is fur feels very course.

Most times he would approach me with his head bowed down and I would raise his head so I can look him in the eyes.  Now when he sees me he will give out a little cry and run towards me - I can tell he is happy to see me - makes me feel real special!  He is so funny, there a few wild chickens around our home and he enjoys running after the chickens.  Of course this will scare them but he means no harm.  I think this is his form of daily exercise.

The bad thing about this new friendship though is every time I make friends with my neighbor's dog, eventually I miss them and when I inquire about them, I would be told that the dog died.  I had planned to stay from Fluffy but ...  I love dogs.

November 1, 2012
After my early morning walk yesterday, I realized that I did not see my friend for a few days so I decided to go look for him.  I saw him lying in an open area close to his home.  Some how he noticed me and began to approach with uncertainty but he kept on coming closer until he was at my feet.  Well I can't express how I felt.  I never experienced this before - I am not the owner of this dog, I never fed him but I think he likes my friendship.  He left where he was and came towards me - remember he was a good distance from me.  Wow it was a special moment for me, this is a really special animal.

My friend Fluffy died today!  It is a sad day for his family and me as well.  He was well cherished and loved.  I really don't know what happened - maybe he was ate something that was not good for him.  I was hoping that he would  have time to been seen by a vet today. But I guess it was too late.  Good bye my friend!!!!

Pho.to A Great Free Online Photo Editor

I recently had a 13th beach birthday party photography job and after the event I had to  edit some of the photos because some of the photos had a sort of a white wash even though it was a beautiful, bright sunny day.  Also some of the people wore white clothing and I noticed that in some of the photos, the background was a bit white so it clashed with the white clothing.

I thought about doing some color enhancement and did a search on the internet, Google of course!  I found this online photo editor - Pho.to.

Pho.to is just awesome.  In this post I want to show you an example of how I used this application.

I did not have to register to use the application and it is free.  My email address was not required either.

This first photo is quite pale (a kind of white wash) so I uploaded it to Pho.to and simply clicked the Quick Enhancement button.

I waited a few seconds and this is the result!  I can now see the beauty in the photo.  The rocks have come alive - such great color.  I am very pleased with the results.

As a matter of fact, at my meeting with my client who hired me to do the photography at her daughter's 13th birthday party, she indicated which one of the photos that she really liked and it was one of the photos that I enhanced using this Pho.to!!!

Frog Trapped

This picture looks a bit - scary even looks like an alien!!!  It is a frog and it is trapped between the window and the hurricane shutters.  I was at the Old Governor House Museum (Road Town, Tortola BVI) in the Stamp Room when I notice this frog. I thought that it was dead but as I looked closely, I saw that it was breathing.  I hope he gets out of there alive.  Check out the suction cups at the end of its 'fingers'!

The Stamp Room is the newest exhibit at the Old Government House Museum.  The Stamp Room opened in November 2006 and houses a virtually complete collection of B.V.I. stamps.  The stamp exhibition is supported by the BVI Philatelic Society.

Visit To Emperor Valley Zoo, Trinidad And Tobago

On my visit to Trinidad in June 2011, my husband and I visited the Emperor Valley zoo.  I have not been there in years.  There are quite a few recent developments to the zoo, like the underground aquarium for example.
I got so excited with I saw these flamingo close up.  Look at they feet, they are pink as well!  My husband took these great pictures!
Again my husband took this pictures.  I refused to go any where near to the cages with the snakes.  But now I can look at the pictures.  Weird!
These ducks were in the same area with the pink flamingos.  Seems like the ducks were having a little 'spa' moment!
This is a great picture of this lion thank goodness for my zoom lens. There is a plexi glass that separates the lion from the zoo visitors.  That is the reason the pictures looks a bit dull.  He is the only one that we saw in the den.

Invasive Green Iguana In My Patio - Tortola British Virgin Islands

As I opened the door to my patio, I saw this green invasive iguana on the ground looking at me. I was a little scared as I did not know what he would do. It had beautiful vivid green skin.

I think when they are this green it indicates their age and youth. I grabbed the nearest camera that I had and took these pictures.

Unfortunately the camera battery 'ran' dead and I was only able to get a few pictures.  Good pictures though.

Now let's discuss the present that this iguana left for me on my patio - his waste - and it is as large as he is!  LOL!
