Old Pay Toll Booth By Queen Elizabeth Island Bridge, Tortola, British Virgin Islands

This old Pay Toll Booth was located on Tortola by the Queen Elizabeth  Bridge.  We were required to pay a bridge toll here before crossing the bridge to go to Beef Island.  This hut has since been blown away during hurricane Irma.

Old Buildings/House In Trellis Bay, Beef Island, British Virgin Islands

I love taking photos of old buildings houses.  This is a photo of a structure located in Trellis Bay, Beef Island, British Virgin Islands.  It was originally a store that sold paintings and some craft items.  Then apparently the owners closed the store and moved away.  Then Trellis Bay Market, took over the building and used it as a laundromat.  This building was destroyed during hurricane Irma in September. 2017.  I am so grateful that I have photos and footages of these old buildings/houses in the British Virgin Islands.

St. Philips Anglican Church

This is St. Philips Church, located at Kingston Tortola British Virgin Islands. I am using this photo to highlight a virgin island stamp about this church.  See the page here.

About St. Philips Church
Following the abolition of the slave trade in 1807 the British Navy liberated Africans from slaving vessels sailing in British waters. Some were brought to Tortola and provided with land plots that were sponsored by the British Government in 1831.They joined the Kingstown community of freed Africans which grew to almost 300 within the first year and St.Philips Anglican Church and School was constructed to serve some of their needs.

Nothing remains of the many homes that were originally built at Kingstown and the hurricane of 1916 destroyed the Masters House and caused severe damaged to the Church itself. The Church walls, the Altar and Graveyard still make for an interesting visit though. The red bricks that show through the plaster are a clear reminder of the plantation era they were brought as ballast in the holds of the ships that carried the sugar and other produce from the islands back to England. Ultimate BVI

Here is a great site that with alot more in depth history about this great historical structure.

Lower Estate Sugar Works, Tortola British Virgin Islands

This is one of the BVI Tourist attractions - Lower Estate Sugar Works.  This building was constructed in 1780, I guess this is where the sugar cane was processed in the slavery days.

Make A Good Guess!! Pretty Building In Long Look East End, Tortola British Virgin Islands

I am not into taking pictures of buildings but the reason I took this picture is because it has a story behind it.

The owner is a Trinidadian and he is a contractor. The pink castle like house (above) is his (he built it). Now tell me why did he choose those colours. I just don't understand it. I would NEVER choose those wild colours to paint my house in.

Well a few days ago I met him in the grocery and he told me that he built another house. So I went looking for it, following his directions. I got a little lost that morning but when I did follow his directions to the "T", I saw it. And you know how I knew it was his? Just look at the picture (below) and I think you would see what I am talking about.
Good job man!!

Bomba Shack, Apple Bay, Tortola British Virgin Islands

I did something different during my lunch hour today. I went to West End to take these pictures. It was a 25 minute drive and it was a beautiful day.

Bomba Shack Apple Bay, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

What you see in these pictures is a tourist spot called Bomba Shack. It is located at Capoons Bay, Apple Bay, Tortola BVI. It is famous for its monthly fully moon party and Bush Tea drink. This drink consists of a variety of rums and can 'knock' you down if you are not careful.

One of the cultures when you visit this spot for the first time, is to leave your underwear. Some tourists have some outrageously fun times here. I am sure many don't remember what they did. During the early part of the year, this beach is good for surfing, so you would see alot of surfers doing their thing.

UPDATE:  Bomba Shack was destroyed during the 2017 hurricane Irma.  It was not rebuilt because of land ownership issued.
