My Photography Equipment Trials On My Trip To Virgin Gorda BVI

Recently I went on a sponsored road trip to Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands.  I had everything organized, or so I thought.  I packed my camera, made sure the battery was fully charged.  I even packed my car charger for my cell phone.  As back up, I packed my EOS Canon camera with a brand new SD memory card.

The type of video that I recorded:  I clipped my cell phone holder onto the dashboard of the vehicle then inserted the cell phone into the holder.  As we drove, I recorded the route.  The problem here was even though the phone was full charged, it did not have enough memory space.  These types of videos are pretty long so their took up quite a bit of memory space on the phone.  Before long all the memory space on the phone was used up.

So I turned to my back up - EOS Canon camera the only thing was I had to hold the camera in my hand to do the recording which was very unsteady.  What I ended up doing was, as we stopped occasionally, I would get some short video footages.  This was working well until ....  guess what?

The camera battery needed charging and I did not have a back up battery.

Maybe I should have go get a device where I can transfer my files from my phone to a external hard drive.

Unplanned Photoshoot At The Baths Virgin Gorda BVI

My husband and I went to The Baths on Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands on Friday February 5, 2021 and he surprisingly decided to take some photos.  I don't really like photos taken of me.  They must be taken a certain way.  I surprised myself in this photo shoot.  I was actually posing and having a good time. My husband was just snapping away and I just laughed at him.  It was nice to be on the other side of the camera for a change

My First Trip To Great Camanoe Island British Virgin Islands

On Sunday January 31 2021 my husband and I arrived at Trellis Bay, Beef Island, to get a private boat to transport us to Great Camanoe.  It was very windy and cold.  We definitely were not dressed for the weather.  The water was choppy so were not able to make the trip that day. I was a bit disappoint as this would have been my first to Great Camanoe.

The following photo is one of my grandson.  He went with us on the first day and he was very cold so I told him to go jump on the trampoline (which is located outside Jeremy's Kitchen) to get warmed up.  He had a great time.

On Tuesday  February 2, 2021 we returned to Trellis Bay to try and make the trip again.  We had to walk on a floating  dock to get on the private boat.   The morning was beautiful.  We were blessed with the sight of an awesome sunrise along the way.

Great Camanoe is part of the British Virgin Islands so travel documents are not required to make the trip.  

Within 5 minutes we arrived at southern part of Great Camanoe.  From Great Camanoe you can see Marina Cay, Scrub Island, Virgin Gorda (in the distance).  When we arrived on the island, we were transported to our destination with a John Deere golf cart.  Arrangement were made in advance.  The house owner was aware that we were arriving so transportation was made to have us transported from the jetty to the house.

The average house owner on Great Camanoe, are residents of another country and reside here for a few months of the year.  The balance of the year the houses are unoccupied but attended to, daily, by a property manager.

The island is very small with no commercial ventures, restaurants,  banks,  groceries etc.  You would not see any vehicles on the road, no taxis for the housekeeping staff to get to their destination.   However you will see an occasional golf cart or John Deere - staff might be able to hitch a ride if they are lucky😁.

Workers travel to and from the island, daily from Beef Island.  The owner or property manager of the respective properties will transport the workers from Beef Island to Great Camanoe.  On the island, transport will be provided to their destination. 

Your friends can't just pop over.  They will have to be invited.  There aren't any any public ferries to this island.  You will have to know that they are coming.

Being a property owner on Camanoe island will entail owning a boat and being able to navigate the boat.

As I sat and wait for my husband to finish with his client, I enjoyed the lovely cool breeze and magical sounds of the ocean eventhough I could hear the sound of a weed whacker close by.

Your pantry, medicine cabinet, household maintenance supplies must be always be fully stocked up at all times. Trash has to be dropped off on Beef Island.

I am curious to know though, who is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the island and where the best beaches are. Maybe its is a community thing. I would like to see around the entire island and the northern part of the island.

I saw this guy hanging out on my chive aka green onion plant for a few days well.  I finally got a photo of it.  I am super amazed at the quality of close photos that I am getting with my new Samsun A10s cell phone.  All I have to do is to make one simple selection and focus!

Sunrise Hawks Nest Tortola British Virgin Islands

What a magnificent view to start the day.  My husband and I left home around 6:00am to go to his nephew's house which is located on Hawks Nest, Tortola British Virgin Islands.  As we arrived there we were greeted with this super fabulous view of the sunrise and of course I had to pull out my camera and take some photos.

My new-in-law was also there and he too capturing the stunning scenes with his camera.  So I took the opportunity to take a photo of him standing by the mini pool with the sunrise in the background.  Perfect photo composition!!

 

Hzrfun Cell Phone Holder For Car Dashboard Clip Review

On my YouTube channel I have a few videos in which I drive around Tortola British Virgin Islands.  The very first video I did was and still is very popular on my channel - I drove around Road Town Tortola, actually my husband drove and I did the recording using my Canon EOS M100 camera.  

On another trip we drove from Road Town to West End (on the southern coast road).  It was a tiring trip for me as I held my camera sturdy while my husband drove, at the end my shoulders and back were tired.

With the purchase of my Canon EOS M100 camera there was a mini tripod in the kit so I decided to use it to mount my cell phone and set up on the dashboard of my car.  The dashboard of my car has a groove where I can set the tripod.  This set up worked okay until I drove over the hills and the tripod fell out of position.  Occasionally I had to hold the tripod in place to prevent it from falling out.  

I tried getting footage this way because I didn't want to bother my husband plus it was very tiring to hold the camera sturdy for long periods whole he drove.  I purchased a cell phone mount for the windshield but the phone vibrated while I drove and I was not pleased with the footage.  Relocating these mounts is always a problem for me as they don't stick on to the windshield as good as the first time.

On my trip to Trinidad at the end of 2019, I purchased a web cam as I thought this was the best solution for me but unfortunately I damaged the compartment that stores the sd card.

Recently I purchased a Hzrfun Cell Phone Holder For Car Dashboard Clip.  I chose those one as I know that there is a section on my vehicle dashboard that can facilitate a clip like this.  Its a simple design which allows me to position my cell phone at different angles to get the view that I want.  

I am loving this cell phone clip, recording videos while driving is so much easier now.  I can even clip the cell phone onto my steering wheel and so a selfie recording.  On one occasion I did a selfie recording with the clip attached onto the dashboard but the steering wheel was in front my face.  But I still went ahead and did the recording.  See the video below to see what I am talking about.  

My only problem now is as my cell phone is set up on my dashboard to record, after about 15-20 minutes, the temperature on my dashboard gets very hot - my phone as well and stops recording.

Iguana Sunbathing - Tortola British Virgin Islands

Yesterday I went to hand out my laundry and I passed my buddy without seeing him (I don't know how to identify the males from the female as yet).  It was only when I was on my way back into the the house I saw same familiar colours in the corner of my eye and I was looking in the usual spot when I see these iguanas.  When I eventually refocused my eyes, the iguana was right in front of me out of his usual spot!!

This photo was taken before the one above.  I did not want to add it to my gallery because of the ugly mop but its a great photo.  You can see the length of the iguana and him leaving his 'home'.

He likes to leave the confines of his 'home', walk through the porch and go over to the piece of land on the other side of the house.  Maybe he went looking for food or check out his other friends!

Red Flamboyant Tree In Full Bloom - Beef Island, British Virgin Islands

After taking those magnificent photos in my last post of the flamboyant tree with yellow flowers, I went on a hunt to find a tree with the red flowers and found this tree in full bloom on Beef Island British Virgin Islands, near the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.

Yellow Flamboyant Tree In Full Bloom - Pockwood Pond Tortola British Virgin Islands

My husband and I went out friends' house to pick some tamarind so of course I was armed with my Canon EOS M100 camera.  When I arrived there, this yellow flamboyant tree was in full bloom, I was so excited.  I don't think I ever saw this tree with yellow flowers.  I am super happy that I took these photos because a few days later, the tree was not as laden with flowers.

Hibiscus Flower Bloom

I took this photo this morning in memory of a family member who passed almost a year ago.  He loved his plants and flowers.  As I saw these flowers bloom, right away he came back to my memory and I smiled😊😊

Wow what a great photo opportunity first thing this morning.  As I opened my window I saw this guy hanging on a banana tree leaf which was very close to my window and it seems like my guy was still asleep!!!
